John Simons Flora & Fauna Sanctuary

Located within the Living Desert is the 180ha John Simons Flora & Fauna Sanctuary which is bordered by an electric predator-proof fence.

The area allows visitors to gain an educational and cultural experience which further enhances an understanding of our area's Aboriginal Heritage.

Starview Campsite

Welcome to the Starview Primitive Campsite – only 12km from Broken Hill. Nestle into the gorgeous Living Desert State Park and spend a few nights among the tranquil surrounds. Enjoy encounters with a variety of native animals, explore the rich mineral deposits and rock formations on our extensive walking trails leading to the Sunset Sculptures and through the John Simon’s Flora & Fauna Sanctuary.

Sundown Trail

The Sundown Nature Trail is part of the Living Desert State Park but unlike the rest of the park it's free of charge and not accessible from the Nine Mile Road.

Sunset Sculptures

Broken Hill has long been known as a centre of excellence for the art of painting. Lawrence Beck, a Gosford based sculptor, proposed holding a Symposium to add sculpture to Broken Hill’s art culture. 53 tonnes of sandstone were transported from the Wilcannia area to the Living Desert State Park.
