In 1936, Zinc Corp formed New Broken Hill Consolidated (NBHC) Ltd to explore leases south of the Zinc Mine and commenced operations at the NBHC Mine in 1944.
NBHC developed this housing site for salaried staff as part of its development program after 1946. The mines provided a range of company housing and also low interest loans for employee housing, established housing co-operatives, and constructed housing for senior staff. Community amenities and recreational facilities were also provided.
Zinc Corp became Consolidated Zinc Corporation in 1949 and merged with Rio Tinto to become Conzinc Riotinto of Australia (CRA) in 1962. The company is now Perilya Limited.
