Dean Solomon

Former professional Australian Rules football player, Solomon also played basketball and cricket growing up in Broken Hill, but football was where his real talent lay. The Solomon family have a long history with North Broken Hill Football Club, which is where Solomon played in several junior premierships. As an under-16 player at North he regularly received honours for his performance. Aged 16 he won best junior playing in the league and A-grade teams against older, more experienced players.

Dean Solomon left Broken Hill to play for the Under-18 Bendigo Pioneers and then landed a selection for Essendon Football where he played his AFL debut in 1998, aged 18. In 2000 he was selected for Essendon’s premiership Team. Solomon played a total of 158 games and kicked 56 goals for Essendon Football Club from 1998 until 2006 and was then traded to Fremantle where he played until 2010, when a knee injury led to his early retirement from AFL. By this time he had played 51 games for Fremantle and kicked 22 goals.

After assistant coaching at Freemantle for the 2010 football season, Dean Solomon became a professional AFL coach and has now worked as a coach with Greater Western Sydney, Gold Coast Suns and, more recently, Tweed Coast football clubs.
